Learn to Sail a Yacht Experience

1/2 day adventure

We’ll cruise out and see the local sights (dolphins & sea turtles) heading out towards Gulf of Mexico the perfect day adventure, outdoors, not too physical of a learning experience.

An introduction to basic sailing & coastal cruising off Port Of Call Charters offers daily sailing adventures and the best full or half day sail charter in Fort Myers, Florida waters. Get as involved as you want, have fun, be safe and enjoy a day sailing – cruising.

Your choice of morning or afternoon sail, morning 9AM to Noon, afternoon sail 1-4PM.

Starting we’ll walk around, have a safety briefing, move on to parts of sailboat and basic sailing. Introduction to learn coastal cruising – Get as much hands on experience as you want. You’ll be coached on basic sailing, learn by performing experience: hoisting sails, tending lines and sheets – sailing drills, learning to tack into the wind – jib with the wind, no prior experience required, When we’re under way, you’ll be performing setting and trimming both the main & jib sails, practicing tacking and jibing drills – switching working positions and learn basics at different crew stations – tending lines, working the winches, setting sails including helm – steering the boat. Or just sit back and enjoy the experience. On the “Plan B” enjoy FL sun, great salt water views and memories and an introduction to what yacht cruising is really like. Snacks (chips) and beverages included Soda & bottled water.

Learn to Sail

1 full days

Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15-20 knots) and various sea conditions.

Knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards. Auxiliary power operation is not required.

Port of Call Charters Basic KeelBoat Certificate student must score practical (100%) and academic (80%) test results to receive frameable certificate diploma.

ASA Course Requirements

ASA Certification requires that you become a member of ASA. As of March 2020, ASA annual membership special sale offer 6-month free membership benefits at an annual discount rate special of $39 sale price.

ASA requires each certification course that students use ASA textbooks. We recommend purchasing the printed bundled package (101,103, 104 textbooks) for $75.75. It would be best to purchase textbooks one month before the start of the course to give students enough time to read the text and complete chapter reviews on each course.

Upon arrival, one log book will be issued to each enrolled student. For each successful completion of course(s), a certification sticker for the log book will be issued (sent directly to the student from ASA). This process typically a 3 to 4 week to process. Test results will be held in student’s permanent ASA records. Each course certificate course sticker, ASA fee $150.

ASA 104 – Bareboat Cruising
TUITION: $500 PLUS ASA CERTIFICATION FEES AND TEXTBOOK

This is an advanced cruising standards for individuals with cruising experience. One will act as skipper or crew sailing by day near coastal waters in moderate or heavy weather and seas. Further sail training include knowledge of onboard systems and troubleshooting minor engine trouble, fuel, water, and cooling systems.

Student will also learn cruise planning and provisioning, cooking underway, piloting skills, further navigation, VHF, docking, mooring emergency skills, and using their skills in a coastal cruise to a destination and/or island hopping.

ASA 105 – Coastal Navigation
NO PREREQUISITES A HOME STUDY COURSE $385

Student applies the navigation theory and practices for safe navigation of a sailing vessel in coastal and inland waters.

On-water navigation skills are a combination of 103 Coastal Cruising, 104 Bareboat Cruising in progressive levels of detail Coastal Navigation Course covers chart reading, lights and buoyage, dead reckoning, bearings and fixes, set and drift, tides and currents, lights, dayshapes, signals for shipping, emergency position finding and much more.

Be able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no Sailing Skills part to this Standard and practical application of this sailing knowledge is found in the Advanced Coastal Cruising Standard.

Overnight accommodations

Overnight accommodations if not included already with the overnight class curriculum $95 per night / $65 cleaning fee.
